Information On The American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins

First released in 1986, American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins are the official gold bullion coin for the United Sates. They are produce by the United States Mint in 1/10 oz., 1/4 oz., 1/2 oz. and 1 oz. Containing gold that comes only from America, these coins contain the exact amount of pure gold that is inscribed on the back, as well as, a small amount of alloy, usually silver and copper. The alloy is added only to add strength.

On the front of this beautiful gold bullion is Lady Liberty. She is holding a torch in her right hand and an olive branch in her left. At the top of the coin is the inscription of the word "Liberty".  The back of the coin has a male American eagle holding an olive branch over the nest of a female American eagle and her babies. The front was designed by Augustus Saint-Gaudens, while the back was designed by Miley Busick. From 1986 - 1991 the dates on the coins were inscribed in Roman numerals, whereas,  coins produced from 1992 to the present are inscribed in Arabic numbers.

Available to buy with face values of $5, $10, $25 and $50, these gold coins have a value that is based on the current value of gold, as opposed to its face value and are legal tender. For those who are coin collectors the United States Mint offers a proof version of these coins.  All American eagle gold coins produced by the US Mint are completely guaranteed by the United States government, making these coins a relatively low risk investment.

Due to the above mentioned  guarantee from the United States government, American Eagle Gold Bullion Coins are not difficult to buy and are just as easy to sell.  Since gold is a worldwide recognizable asset, gold coins are considered to be a great investment. These coins can be purchased from a variety of places, including most banks. The American eagle gold coin is the most purchased gold coin in America. Coming in different sizes, as mentioned previously, there is a size that will fit almost any size budget. Purchasing proof coins for collectors can be done directly through the United States Mint.
